Safeguarding Communities: The Wildfire & Asbestos Safety Guide
Translating complex environmental hazards into actionable public health resources.
Role: Lead Researcher & Ghostwriter
Sector: Public Health / Environmental Advocacy
Core Challenge: Explaining the invisible danger of asbestos fibers in wildfire smoke.
The Challenge
Wildfires are increasingly common, and in areas with older buildings, the danger isn’t just the flames. It’s in the air. My task was to bridge the gap between complex geological data and immediate resident safety, creating a guide that was authoritative enough for experts but simple enough for a family in an evacuation zone.
The Solution
Research Distillation: Used online sources to understand the precise risks associated with asbestos in older buildings burned during wildfires.
Narrative Structure: Used current events to frame the data, showing the impact those events may have had due to asbestos..
Provided Added Value: Optimized content for search and offered safety tips to help readers survive wildfires.
Final Thoughts: This project reinforced my belief that the most important role of a writer is to act as a translator for the truth, especially when that truth is complex and the stakes are high.
